There has been plenty of speculation about Samsung’s next Galaxy handset and the announcement from the Korean company turned out to be for the Samsung Galaxy S4, the successor to their very popular S3 handset which was released last year. Samsung have kept the same design – inspired by nature for humans – for their next flagship handset the Galaxy S4.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 5 inch display with a full HD resolution of 1920×1080 which gives it a PPI of 441 which trumps the iPhone 5’s Retina Display of 326. Inside the S4 sports 2GB RAM and and will be available with the following storage options: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB while still retaining the ability to expand the storage by way of a microSD card. The processor included in the Samsung Galaxy S4 will vary depending on your region. Europe will receive S4 handsets with an eight core processor, four of which are Cortex A15 cores, clocked at 1.6GHz for demanding tasks, while the other four processors will be Cortex A7s clocked at 1.2GHz. In the UK however and other regions, Samsung are putting a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.9GHz processor in. Samsung have however said performance will remain the same whichever configuration is available to you.
Other improved specifications over the Samsung Galaxy S3 include a 13 megapixel camera on the back, while the front camera is 2 megapixels. The S4, like the S3 will make use of the front facing camera for Smart Stay but, Samsung have added a few new nifty features for the S4 such as Smart Pause and Smart Scroll. Smart Pause will pause a video when you take your eyes off the screen and resume the video upon turning back to looking at the screen. Smart Scroll on the other hand, will scroll up and down webpages for you, without you having to touch the display. This will work by the handset being tilted up or down, to scroll either up or down.
Another new feature to make it’s way to the Samsung Galaxy S4 is S Health. The app will effectively work as a pedometer for example, tracking how far you’ve walked.
An exact release date for the S4 hasn’t been announced yet but, a Q2 release has been promised for Samsung’s next flagship phone. The handset will be available in Frost White or Black Mist.
