Sony could bring Xperia Compact phones back

Over the years mobile phones have gotten bigger and bigger. While options for those who prefer a smaller phone have gotten, well smaller and smaller. Apple has combated this by releasing the iPhone SE2 and more recently releasing the iPhone 12 in four variants including the iPhone 12 Mini.

For those who prefer the Android OS however options are limited. Sony last released a compact handset in 2018 in the form of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact which offered flagship specs in a small form factor. Rumours suggest that Sony could be releasing another Compact handset soon. It’s rumoured to be slightly bigger than the iPhone Mini 12 but offers a 5.5″ display and still appeal to those looking for a smaller than average smartphone.

Leaks suggest the new Sony Xperia compact is expected to have dual rear cameras, one of which a 13MP sensor, while sporting an 8MP front camera. There will be a fingerprint scanner in the power button and it’s expected the Compact handset will keep the 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature that has been removed from many flagship devices recently.

A release date is currently unknown but from previous Sony announcements, they could announce it as soon as February and begin shipping in Spring.
